The admissions process can be initiated at any point in the year.
We strongly recommend admission to H.I.S. at the start of Semester 1 or Semester 2, however, we also take admissions at the start of Quarter 1, 2 and 3, provided that the student shows evidence of readiness to begin school and there is an available seat in the grade level.
HARBOUR
DNA
Harbour International School is an inclusive and a welcoming school community that is established in Dehradun to serve the people by providing an authentic and genuine international education. H.I.S. is built upon Christian values, ethics and principles. Along with taking the subject of Moral Education, students are also expected to be a part of prayers, assemblies, chapels and events such as these.
As much as we operate on our Christian identity and DNA, students will never be forced to embrace the Christian beliefs, but are expected to be present in all internal activities of the school. H.I.S. will never discriminate against any student/family on the basis of their religion or beliefs. Respect for all people regardless of their identities and background is one of the core values of Harbour International School.
APPLICATION
FEE
A non-refundable application fee is charged to begin the admissions process at H.I.S. The payment of the application fee does not guarantee admission to the school but is a requirement to formally begin the admissions process.
This fee is only charged one time during the admission of the student and not annually at each grade level or class.
A re-enrollment to H.I.S. after a gap of one semester will levy the application fee and admissions fee on the applicant again, during the time of re-enrollment.
ADMISSIONS
ASSESSMENT
We are committed to serving each child individually with careful attention to their needs, for which we believe in conducting an admissions assessment at the time of enrolment.
Admissions assessment is designed to determine the academic level of the applicant in various subjects. This diagnostic test helps place the student in the appropriate grade/class with consideration of their academic and age level.
For applicants that need considerable support with the English language (determined by the Academic Head and Homeroom Teacher) and do not qualify the basic requirements (lack of speaking and understanding English), the school will place the student into an ESL program which will levy additional costs. Please enquire about the additional ESL program costs at admissions@his-ed.com
Based on the discretion of the school leadership, the student may be recommended to take external tests if there is any evidence of a special educational need. The cost of this testing will be borne by the parents and not the school. Such a test may be prescribed at the time of admission or even after admission if there arises a discovery or a need to help cater best to the student.
SPECIAL
NEEDS
In continuation to the admissions assessment, any recognized special needs report must be disclosed and a copy of the document must be submitted to the school at the time of admission. The admission of the special needs students depends on the needs of the child and the capability of the school to meet such a need. Please enquire for more information at admissions@his-ed.com
H.I.S. desires to be an all-inclusive school to the special needs students but also understands the importance of quality and professional intervention that the student may need. Therefore, as per the school’s desire, we will aim to grow our expertise and professional support for all educational special needs, but hold the discretion to admissions in any such case in accordance with the school’s ability and capacity to provide appropriate services to a student with special needs.
INDIAN
APPLICANTS
Harbour International School is a very diverse and multicultural community, welcoming students from all over the globe. Despite the education predominantly built upon the American framework, it is not exclusively for foreigners. The school’s aims and objectives are designed to provide the best possible education for both Indian and Foreign nationals that prepares them for further and higher education, both in India and abroad.
Indian students, if coming from an Indian education system, will generally find various differentiating elements in the pedagogy and the philosophy of education at H.I.S. We are committed to helping each student to thrive and perform their best at school, therefore, under the recommendations and assessment of the school leadership, we may refer to a preparatory program for the student to be able to make a smooth transition into the international school system. All costs for such a program are additionally borne by the parents.
